Government extends CBDT Chairman P C Mody's tenure by another year

A 1982-batch Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax cadre) officer, Mody, took over as the Central Board of Direct Taxation (CBDT) chief in February.



The tenure of CBDT Chairman P C Mody has been extended by an year, a government order said Thursday.
According to the order, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved "re-appointment" of Mody for a period of one year.
Mody was to retire on August 31.
A 1982-batch Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax cadre) officer, Mody, took over as the Central Board of Direct Taxation (CBDT) chief in February.
The ACC in an another order appointed 1983-batch IRS officer Prabhash Shankar as a new member in the CBDT.
There are still two vacancies in the Board.
The other members are P K Dash, Akhilesh Ranjan and Neena Kumar.
While Dash and Kumar are holding additional charges apart from their regular duties, the CBDT chairman is holding the charge of investigations in an additional capacity.
The CBDT is headed by a chairman and can have a maximum of six members. It frames policy for the Income-Tax Department.

CBDT chairman P C Mody pulls up tax officials over pending complaints

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman P C Mody has hauled up income-tax (I-T) officials for not resolving grievances in a timebound manner.
In a communication to principal chief commissioners sent on Friday, the CBDT chief said pending cases are a cause of concern and point to a “lackadaisical attitude”.
Citing the pending cases, Mody said despite efforts by the board, it is seen that the number of pending grievances on the Centralized Public Grievance Redress And Monitoring System (Cpgrams) stood at 2,647, of which 885 are pending for over 30 days. Cpgrams is a flagship initiative by the Centre for reforming the governance. Similarly, e-nivaran, an ambitious facility launched by the CBDT for online redress of taxpayers, shows 34,026 cases as pending for resolution.

CBDT chairman tells taxmen to boost collection without harassing taxpayers

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman P C Mody has directed tax officials to shore up revenue collection without harassing taxpayers. The directives come at a time when the department is grappling to achieve the direct tax collection target.
The income-tax (I-T) department has to collect Rs 4.2 trillion to meet the revised target this financial year. In an internal communication to principal chief commissioners of I-T on February 26, the apex body for direct taxes asked the officials to maximise revenue collection, adding that their conduct “must be impeccable,
